Located in Middle Georgia, conveniently one mile west off I-75. The Retreat of Southern Bridle Farms in Perry
In January 2014, after the news of the closing of the property known as Henderson Village became public, Jim Marshall and David Whiddon, owners of the Middle Georgia wedding and event venue The Cedar Barn of Southern Bridle Farms, approached Mr. Bernard Schneider about acquiring the property.
Marshall and Whiddon were seeking to open a second venue and their vision was a southern plantation style resort with overnight accommodations. In March 2014, Southern Bridle Farms acquired the property. The resort was renamed The Retreat of Southern Bridle Farms. Their desire is to return this one prominent southern plantation resort to its former glory.
Originally, Mr. Schneider from Munich, Germany, purchased the property in 1979. His vision was to create a unique country resort with historic soul and integrity of a home away from home from a bygone era.During the resorts development, Mr. Schneider had the vision of creating a village. Reflecting on his childhood, he remembers at 9 years old watching the American soldiers as they marched through his occupied German village at the end of World War II and took up residence in the hotel that his aunt owned.
The soldiers spent Sunday afternoons watching American films, and Mr. Schneider recalls seeing one particular love story set in the South. The film left beautiful images of friendly people. It was then that he set his sights on working diligently to one day own a plantation of his own in the South.
All of the accommodations are superbly preserved, while providing the modern comforts of a luxury resort. The rooms all include guest rooms and suites that are donned with beautiful antique furnishings, some with claw-footed or jetted tubs, fireplaces, and cozy feather beds.
